I am a PhD student researching self-regulatory deficits and aggression in young offenders, especially in the context of ADHD. As part of a transregional project (TRR379) to investigate the neuropsychobiology of aggression, I am exploring the feasibility of TUS (transcranial ultrasound) to affect deep brain regions involved in self-regulation and impulse control. For my PhD, I am working under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Til Ole Bergmann and Dr. med. Florian Müller-Dahlhaus, especially regarding neuromodulation and TUS, as well as PD Dr. phil. et med. habil. Alexandra Sebastian, Prof. Dr. med. Oliver Tüscher, Prof. Dr. med. Wolfgang Retz, and Dr. rer. biol. hum., Dr. med. Daniel Turner.

In 2025, I graduated from the research master’s degree in cognitive neuroscience at the Donders Institute and Radboud University in Nijmegen (The Netherlands), building on my undergraduate studies in (medical) neurobiology. I undertook an internship with Dr. Lennart Verhagen, conducting a proof-of-concept study for neuromodulation of the basal forebrain, specifically the nucleus basalis, using TUS. My work combined TUS with simultaneous EEG, a promising yet challenging approach to modulating deep brain regions while capturing physiological data.

My fascination with the mechanisms of brain plasticity and my curiosity about emerging technologies such as TUS have defined my academic trajectory. I am deeply motivated by the translational potential of neuromodulation and aim to bridge the gap between neuroscience and clinical applications. Recently, TUS has been convincingly demonstrated to influence behaviour in humans, which may hold immense potential in that regard.
