I started out studying Agricultural Resources and Environment for my bachelor’s. Fascinated by human brain dynamics and non-invasive brain stimulation, I decided to switch fields to psychology and neuroscience. I received my Master’s degree in Applied Psychology from Hangzhou Normal University in China, where my research centered on non-invasive brain stimulation. During that time, I primarily worked with TMS-EEG to explore cortical excitability, neuroplasticity, and how they apply to stroke, depression, and pain. Wanting to look into deeper brain mechanisms, I joined Prof. Til Ole Bergmann’s lab. For my PhD project, I use Transcranial Ultrasound Stimulation (TUS) combined with high-density and closed-loop EEG to modulate neural activity in the basal forebrain and its cholinergic connections to the cortex and hippocampus. Our goal is to figure out the cholinergic mechanisms behind human memory, especially during encoding and retrieval.
